Japan Improves Health Service in Kanungu

 

Through Japan’s Grants Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Bwindi Community Hospital has extended the maternity ward and received medical equipment. The grant of US $ 102,190 equivalent of over UGX 227M was signed between the Embassy of Japan in Uganda and the hospital management in October 2010.

Kanungu district has a considerably high maternal mortality rate due to its high practice of traditional home delivery. H. E. Kazuo Minagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, who officiated the inauguration of the new facility today at the hospital, said that withthe new facility now completed, expectant mothers would have easier access to the professional medical services there and maternal mortality in the district would be reduced.

This donation by Japan is part of the GGP scheme administered by the Japanese Embassy to support community development projects to uplift the grassroots people. So far, 150 projects have been funded under the scheme in Uganda since its inception in Uganda in 1992.
